uit de Van de Hare kappersfamilie, is het herenvak mij met de paplepel ingegoten. En het is in mijn ogen het mooiste ambacht van de wereld; no-nonsense en ‘a men’s world’! Na de kappersopleiding, ben ik in 1989 direct in het kappersvak aan de slag gegaan en in 1991 in dienst gekomen bij mijn vader in dit unieke grachtenpand op de Singel, hartje Amsterdam. Na wat omzwervingen, vestigde mijn opa zich hier al in 1953 en ik zet, na mijn vader, zijn zaak voort. Voor mij een toplocatie; ‘de mooiste plek van Amsterdam’! Als barber maak ik gebruik van klassieke kniptechnieken voor moderne herenkapsels. Of het nu gaat om opknippen met kam en schaar of met de tondeuse, effileren (uitdunnen) met het scheermes, haarsnijden of scheren, ik doe het allemaal met passie. En onze traditionele barbiersbehandeling waarbij warme en koude doeken gebruikt worden tijdens het scheren, is de kers op de taart. Wij houden de laatste trends goed in de gaten en gaan voor een kapsel die bij iemand past, waar hij zich goed bij voelt. Ook kinderen zijn bij ons welkom. Niet alleen kan ik mijn creativiteit in het herenvak kwijt, maar knippen is ook een sociaal vak. Van de Hare Amsterdam Barbers is met recht een sociale ontmoetingsplaats geworden waar velen alleen maar even binnen komen voor onze espresso, een bitterbal of een praatje. Het is elke dag weer een feest om hier te staan, in het bruisende centrum met een prachtige mengelmoes aan klanten en een ongedwongen sfeer. Kwaliteit staat bij ons voorop en daarom werken wij met kwaliteitsproducten. Een aantal jaar geleden, wonnen wij de award voor beste Barbershop van Nederland, beste kapsalon van de provincie Noord-Holland en de derde plek als de beste kapsalon van heel Nederland. Ik ben trots op ons sterke team dat daaraan heeft bijgedragen. Een team dat zich blijft ontwikkelen, perfectionisme tot in de detail. We voelen elkaar goed aan en we hebben aan één woord genoeg. Inmiddels organiseer ik zelf een verkiezing tot beste barbershop van Nederland via mijn platform voor barbers en herenkappers, genaamd BarberSociety. Ik kan zelf dus niet meer meedoen maar adviseer collega’s graag. Dat mijn vaste klanten onze kwaliteit waarderen en met plezier bij ons op de stoel plaats nemen, bewijst een gemiddelde beoordeling van een 9 op de review website wiewathaar.nl en de vele goede google en facebook reviews. Al vanaf mijn twaalfde ben ik met het kappersvak bezig. Wat begon als interesse groeide al snel uit tot een echte passie voor het barbiersvak. Inmiddels werk ik als topstylist en sta ik bekend om mijn strakke afwerking en oog voor detail. In de stoel werk ik graag met zowel klassieke als moderne stijlen. Van strakke fades en scherpe contourlijnen tot baardverzorging en traditionele scheerbeurten met hot towels. Voor mij draait het er vooral om dat iemand met een kapsel de deur uitloopt dat echt bij hem past. Creativiteit speelt daarbij een grote rol. Fashion en stijl hebben me altijd geïnteresseerd en die inspiratie neem ik mee in mijn werk. Ik volg trends, maar geef er altijd mijn eigen twist aan, zodat elke klant een look krijgt die bij hem past. Buiten de shop zit muziek ook in mijn bloed. In mijn vrije tijd draai ik regelmatig als DJ en werk ik met vrienden in de studio. Die creatieve energie neem ik mee naar de stoel: scherp, ontspannen en met aandacht voor detail. generation of the Van de Hare hairdressing family, barbering is in my blood. And if you ask me, it’s the best craft in the world – no-nonsense and hands-on! After completing hairdressing college, I went straight to work in the hairdressing business in 1989. In 1991, I joined my father’s salon located in this unique canal house on the Singel Canal in the heart of Amsterdam. After moving the shop a couple of times, my grandfather moved to these premises in 1953. I’m proud to have followed in his and my father’s footsteps and to now stand at the helm of Van de Hare Amsterdam Barbers. I couldn’t imagine anyplace better: it’s the most beautiful spot in Amsterdam! As a barber I use traditional barbering techniques to create modern haircuts. Scissor-over-comb cuts, clipper cuts, razor cuts, texturizing hair with thinning scissors, razor-over-comb cuts – I employ all these techniques and more with equal passion. And our traditional barber treatments featuring the use of hot and cold towels during the shave, is the icing on the cake. We track the latest trends and aim to give each client a hair style that matches him to a tee and makes him feel good. Kids are also welcome at our barbershop. Barbering not only gives me the opportunity to put my creativity to work, as a barber I also fulfil a social role. That’s why I’m so proud that Van de Hare Amsterdam Barbers is a sociable meeting place for a wonderful mix of people who drop in for an espresso, traditional Dutch bitterballen, or just a chat. I love being here every day in the vibrant centre of this great city with a wonderfully eclectic mix of clients and a laidback ambience. We always put quality first and that’s why we work exclusively with top-quality products. Several years ago we won the award for the best barbershop in the Netherlands, best hairdressing salon in the Dutch Province of North Holland and third place as the best hairdressing salon in the Netherlands. I’m so proud of everyone on our great team who are key to our barbershop’s success. Everybody on our team keeps developing their skills and aim for perfection down to the last detail. We’re on the same wavelength and can almost read each other’s thoughts. I now organise a Best Barbershop in the Netherlands contest via my platform for barbers and men’s hairdressers called BarberSociety. While I obviously can’t compete in this contest, I am happy to advise colleagues. The fact that our regular clients appreciate our quality and enjoy getting a haircut at our barbershop is reflected in our average rating of 9 on the review site wiewathaar.nl and the numerous good google and facebook reviews. I’ve been involved in the barbering trade since I was twelve. What started as curiosity quickly grew into a real passion for the craft. Today I work as a top stylist and I’m known for my clean finishes and strong eye for detail. In the chair I enjoy working with both classic and modern styles — from sharp fades and clean contour lines to beard grooming and traditional hot towel shaves. For me, the most important thing is that every client leaves with a haircut that truly suits them. Creativity plays a big role in my work. I’ve always had a strong interest in fashion and style, and that inspiration carries over into what I do in the shop. I keep up with the latest trends, but always add my own twist so every client gets a look that feels personal. Outside the shop, music is a big part of my life. In my free time I sometimes DJ and work with friends in the studio. I bring that same creative energy to the chair — focused, relaxed, and always with attention to detail.
